Staff Accountant – Construction Division

Reports to: Accounting Comptroller and V.P.

Job Overview: The staff accountant works directly with the Accounting Comptroller to complete books for accounting and financial reporting for the company. This person has experience in QuickBooks, tracking of accounts payable and receivable, posting to and reconciliation of the General Ledger, for internal financial reporting and forecasting.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Compile, sort, and enter business transactions into QuickBooks, posting receipts, invoices, and checkbook, to General Ledger and Job Cost.

  • Review invoices, compare them to purchase orders, and contract, code them to projects, prior to accurately entering them into the accounting software.

  • Enter purchase orders into QuickBooks.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate project, job cost reporting, of payroll, invoices, card charges, and job status reporting of purchase orders and hours worked, for individual projects.

  • Reconcile credit card statements.

  • Reconcile bank statements, closeout end of month, and complete monthly in-house financial statement.

  • Complete various sales and use tax reports and payments for required States.

  • Complete corporate personal property tax reports and payments.

  • Work with outside CPA firm to complete year- end financial statements and tax returns.

  • Must be able to work as part of a team with peers and leadership within the organization.

  • Work with Accounting Comptroller to research and create new processes to streamline or improve accounting systems.

  • Attend Huddle meetings.


  • Two Year Degree, Bachelors is a plus.

  • Experience in a position of being able to prioritize and complete daily tasks.

  • Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, and QuickBooks.

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Outstanding organizational skills.

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple tasks within a defined period of time.

Success in the position looks like:

  • Project Management team has a good understanding of current project cost.

  • Monthly Financial reports are completed and submitted within 30 days of end of month.

  • Ledgers are accurate.

  • Reports are clean, professional looking and easy to understand.

  • Year-end CPA team has all information and support they need to complete year end.

  • Company has financial info for team meetings that assists in forecasting and goals.
