Job DescriptionJob Summary: This position requires the individual to work directly with Native American students and families. The position requires individual work directly with Native American children to improve school attendance and academic performance in the areas of Math and Reading.Executive Summary: The Indian Education Tutor provides support and motivation to students who have a 506 form in the data system and have been identified as in need of additional support. The Indian Education Tutor works with students throughout the school day to help students close academic gaps in Math and Reading providing academic interventions.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork 1:1 and in groups with Native American children.Communicate and work effectively with teachers, co‑workers, building administrators, parents, and other caregivers as an educational team.Attend monthly Parent Advisory Committee meetings.Practice professional, legal and ethical conduct toward students, parents, building administrators, and co‑workers.Motivate and assist students to build self‑esteem, discipline, develop interpersonal skills, think independently, and learn actively.Use developmentally appropriate instructional interventions for curricular activities in the areas of cognitive, motor, self‑help, social interaction and language development for students.Understand and appreciate diversity in children's cultural heritage, lifestyles, value systems, and human rights. Have knowledge of the Native American culture and diverse Native American tribes.Gather formal and informal data regarding students, and provide feedback to teachers to improve effective instruction for students.Maintain confidentiality with student information and student records.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individuals with knowledge of the Native American culture and diverse tribes in the tri‑state area are strongly encouraged to apply.Communication SkillsMust possess the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization. May communicate with parents or guardians of the student(s). Individual must have effective listening skills.Analytical and Reasoning SkillsAbility to gather, collate, and/or classify data. Ability to work with a variety of data. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans.Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentMay be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
