OTTUMWA COMMUNITY SCHOOLSOttumwa, IowaPOSITION TITLE: Head Football CoachREPORTS TO: Athletic DirectorOttumwa Community School District is seeking a dynamic and energetic High School Head Football Coach to lead our football program. As the head coach, you will play a crucial role in shaping the lives of our student-athletes, both on and off the field. This position is an exciting opportunity for an experienced coach who can inspire, motivate, and guide our young athletes to achieve success.QUALIFICATIONS:1. Extensive knowledge of football techniques, strategies, and rules.2. Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes.3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.4. Commitment to the academic success and personal development of student-athletes.5. Uphold high ethical standards and promote sportsmanship.6. Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and the community.7. Required coaching certifications and compliance with all state and local regulations.8. Previous coaching experience, preferably as a head coach or assistant coach at the high school or college level.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:a. Enforcing attendance for practice time to provide both team and individual developmentb. Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices.c. Coaching and instructing players regarding the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport.d. Observing players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual and/or team development.e. Provides feedback on game strategy based on the team's capabilities.f. Monitoring the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.g. Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.h. Follows Iowa High School Athletic Association, (IHSAA) regulations and procedures.i. Models sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials and fans.j. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.k. Participates in special activities to include parent night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.l. Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.m. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal, Athletic Director, or other appropriate administrator.n. Lead all aspects of the football program, including planning and conducting practices, developing game strategies, and providing skill instruction to improve player performance.o. Team Development: Foster a positive team culture, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline. Encourage players to excel academically and maintain good conduct.p. Player Development: Identify and nurture individual talent, helping athletes reach their full potential. Provide feedback and support for player growth.q. Game Management: Manage game day preparations, including game plans, player rotations, and decision-making during games. Aim for success on the field.r. Scouting and Recruitment: Identify and recruit talented athletes to join the program. Develop relationships with feeder programs to cultivate a strong pipeline of future athletes.s. Leadership and Mentorship: Be a positive role model and mentor to players, guiding them not only in football but in life skills, character development, and sportsmanship.t. Team Administration: Oversee team logistics, including equipment management, scheduling, and travel arrangements.u. Safety and Welfare: Prioritize the safety and well-being of all players by ensuring proper training techniques and adherence to safety protocols.v. Community Engagement: Promote the football program within the school and the local community, encouraging support and involvement.w. Program Development: Oversee and coordinate the development of youth and middle school football programs to create a seamless transition into the high school program. This includes organizing camps, clinics, and feeder program relationships.x. Youth Coach Development: Mentor and support youth and middle school coaches, providing resources and guidance to ensure alignment with the high school program's goals and philosophies.y. Player Pipeline: Maintain a strong connection with youth and middle school athletes and their families to encourage participation and retention in the program.z. Skill Development: Collaborate with youth and middle school coaches to ensure that athletes are learning fundamental skills and techniques to prepare them for success at the high school level.aa. Staff Recruitment: Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of coaching staff at all levels, ensuring that coaches are aligned with the program's mission and values.bb.Professional Development: Organize coaching clinics, workshops, and ongoing training opportunities for all staff members to enhance their coaching skills and knowledge.cc. Team Coordination: Facilitate communication and coordination between coaching staff at various levels to ensure consistent coaching philosophies and strategies throughout the program.dd.Player Development: Oversee the development of athletes throughout the entire program, ensuring a smooth transition from middle school to varsity and fostering a sense of unity among all teams.ee. Game Planning: Collaborate with coaching staff to develop game strategies, analyze opponents, and prepare for competition.ff. Player Assessment: Implement a player assessment and evaluation process to track the progress of athletes and inform coaching decisions.gg.
