Responsibilities
Create and maintain the daily activity calendar; post daily updates on social media and weekly blog entries.
Design and implement a diverse range of activities aligned with Montessori principles, focusing on sensory engagement, practical life skills, and cognitive stimulation.
Explain and apply Montessori principles, including the 12 Montessori principles, in practice.
Be able to explain “what is Montessori” in your own words.
Know and practice the 12 Principles of Montessori when engaging with residents.
Tailor activities to meet individual resident needs and preferences, fostering purpose and autonomy.
Collaborate with caregivers, nursing staff, and families to integrate activities into residents' daily routines and care plans.
Provide training and guidance to staff on Montessori methods and activity‑based care for residents with dementia.
Regularly assess activity effectiveness and adapt programs to evolving resident needs.
Maintain accurate records of resident participation and progress; report outcomes.
Plan and chaperone community outings, ensuring safety and enjoyment.
Create activities for themed meals, holidays, and special events.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to resident care plans.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, Social Work, or a related field (preferred).
Minimum 2 years experience in activity planning for seniors, preferably in dementia care; experience with Montessori methods highly desirable.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Certified Activity Director (ADC) or equivalent certification preferred; state‑required certification acceptable.
Valid driver's license and meet insurance company guidelines for insurability.
