Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain the daily activity calendar; post daily updates on social media and weekly blog entries.
  • Design and implement a diverse range of activities aligned with Montessori principles, focusing on sensory engagement, practical life skills, and cognitive stimulation.
  • Explain and apply Montessori principles, including the 12 Montessori principles, in practice.
    • Be able to explain “what is Montessori” in your own words.
    • Know and practice the 12 Principles of Montessori when engaging with residents.
  • Tailor activities to meet individual resident needs and preferences, fostering purpose and autonomy.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, nursing staff, and families to integrate activities into residents' daily routines and care plans.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on Montessori methods and activity‑based care for residents with dementia.
  • Regularly assess activity effectiveness and adapt programs to evolving resident needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of resident participation and progress; report outcomes.
  • Plan and chaperone community outings, ensuring safety and enjoyment.
  • Create activities for themed meals, holidays, and special events.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to resident care plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, Social Work, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years experience in activity planning for seniors, preferably in dementia care; experience with Montessori methods highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Certified Activity Director (ADC) or equivalent certification preferred; state‑required certification acceptable.
  • Valid driver's license and meet insurance company guidelines for insurability.
