Executive Summary: The Talented and Gifted Specialist is the educational leader in the building regarding instructional methods and strategies for students identified as talented and gifted and will ensure that the Sioux City Community School District programs and curricula are implemented in a waythat maximizes student-learning experiences. Consistent with the Department of Education and Sioux City Community School District policies, the teacher will work within an established framework for the delivery of educational services which support student learning. Working collaboratively with a team of educational professionals, the Specialist will demonstrate a strong commitment to planning for continued student achievement of talented and gifted students.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this position include: Working in collaboration with other teachers in planning and developing the instruction for talented and gifted students within the classroom. Providing direct consultation to teachers on how to implement strategies effective in meeting the needs of talented and gifted students. Provide at least 1 professional development session to all building certified staff annually. Be available for further presentations as requested and available. Communicates with parents and families concerning program goals and the performance/achievement of their child in meeting these goals. Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of a personalized education plan for each identified student based on individually assessed needs in accordance with district procedures. Cooperates with school personnel in coordinating talented and gifted services within assigned schools. Assists with the identification of talented and gifted students. Travel among elementary buildings to meet with small groups of identified students. Prepares lesson plans designed to meet program goals and to meet unique interests and aptitudes of each student. Provides learning experiences, activities, and discussion to provide for individual student development. Designs and organizes materials needed to implement instructional plans. Cooperates with other staff members in assessing and helping students address social, emotional and academic issues. Attends scheduled professional development and make use of materials and techniques that improve the educational program. Maintain professional competence through selfselected professional growth activities. Continue intellectual and professional development and pursue further education in primary academic discipline. Must possess proper state certification and licensure for the position, which includes a Talented and Gifted Endorsement. Employee is expected to demonstrate continued professional growth specific to program(s).Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical to the success of this position. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization, including staff, principals, and central administration. Communication will include individual to large group presentations as well as written communications and reports. Individual must have effective listening skills. Analytical and Reasoning Skills: Individual must have a solid background in assessment and have the ability to interpret data, which may be very complex and varied. Must be able to apply assessment strategies and link assessment data analysis to school improvement, curriculum, and professional development. Technology skills: Position requires the individual to be competent in a variety of methods in research and information gathering through technology. The ability to present and communicate through technology is required.Physical Demands and Work Environment: Normal office physical demands. May periodically have moderate physical demands and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Generally, employee works inside.
