Summary:
The Systems Programmer is responsible for maintaining the integrity, performance, and availability of enterprise mainframe environments, including z/OS, as well as Linux and/or AS400 systems. This role installs, administers, and supports system software and third-party productivity tools while troubleshooting and resolving system issues to ensure optimal platform performance and reliability. Strong z/OS experience is required for this role.

JOB DUTIES

  • Assists in the support, maintenance, and implementation of network, messaging, data/voice infrastructure, servers, and storage equipment within the IT data center.
  • Provides operational support and problem resolution for mainframe systems running Z/OS (including system configuration, JCL, SMF, SYSLOG, SMP/E, JES, RACF/security administration, dataset management, and performance monitoring).
  • Conducts end-user support tasks, administrative account changes, and basic end-user troubleshooting.
  • Works with more senior team members to perform patching, upgrades, and complex issue resolutions on Z/OS, Linux, and AS400 platforms.
  • Identifies and resolves routine product related problems; assumes control of time-critical calls or issues.
  • Researches ongoing problems utilizing all information available, equipment histories, and remote support status files.
  • Implements design solutions to keep up with and accommodate unified communications expansion.
  • Documents changes, runbooks, and operational procedures for Z/OS and other supported platforms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Typically requires a bachelor's degree and zero (0) to two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination. Z/OS/mainframe exposure or coursework is required; hands-on Z/OS experience is strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Required: Experience with Z/OS mainframe systems (JCL, SMP/E, JES, RACF or equivalent security, SMF, dataset and storage management, performance tuning, and common mainframe utilities).
  • Knowledge of appropriate networks, products, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of Unix, Windows NT/2000/98, Internet Security, Oracle ERP.
  • Knowledge of associate database/software/documentation.
  • Strong technical aptitude.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a 24x7 operations environment and participate in on-call rotation.
