The City of Sioux City Police Department is offering an exciting opportunity to transcribe daily police dictation as a Transcription & Redaction Specialist (Part-Time) (On Call). The position requires a thorough and complete knowledge of word processing, software and related practices. Qualified candidates must possess strong typing and grammar skills as well as the ability to work independently. The City offers competitive wages. Although this is not a full-time position, the position is eligible for our great pension plan through Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS). The position works up to 28 hours a week and has a flexible schedule which includes nights, weekends, and holidays. The Police Department operates 24 hours, 7 days week. Physical Requirements: Precise use of fingers, arms to enter data into a P.C. accurately and quickly; ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists; ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands; prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; ability to see at a distance of 20" or less and hear within normal limits with or without corrective assistance; ability to identify and understand the speech of another person; frequently uses a computer mouse to navigate digital files, perform redactions, and execute precise clicks during document review and video footage analysis, requiring sustained hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Regularly lifts up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds. Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a normal inside office environment with appropriate heating and cooling and is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards other than those normally associated with general office work.
Minimum Required Qualifications: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. and two (2) years of full-time computer experience in word processing or related keyboard practices or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Special Requirements: An on-site typing test will be conducted, requiring a qualifying speed of 50 wpm. PREFERRED: Two (2) years of transcription experience. Experience working with confidential or sensitive information. Experience in a law enforcement, legal, medical, or government environment.
