Description
The Sioux City Parks & Recreation department is seeking (3) three diligent and hardworking Winter Snow Technicians to be responsible for operating ice maintenance, snowmaking, and snow grooming equipment at Cone Park. Winter Snow Technicians also perform general maintenance to snow cannons, snow equipment, and other related equipment.
The Winter Snow Technicians perform manual tasks in the operation and maintenance of Cone Park. Technicians will regularly lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally 50 pounds, and may lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Cone Park is open from late-November to mid-March, weather permitting. Winter Snow Technicians must be flexible with their schedule as they will work all three shifts, including nights, weekends, overnights and holidays. The schedule may change day to day, depending on need. The work performed is outside during the winter, so there will be regular exposure to cold, below freezing temperatures, and wind chill.
Cone Park Winter Snow Technicians must be dependable, responsible, follow directions, and work independently to achieve specified goals.
Special Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old
Must possess a valid driver's license
Must have reliable transportation.

Duties
Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, performs assigned duties which may include snow making, ice making, snow grooming and general maintenance of the facility.
- Operate ice maintenance, snow making and grooming equipment.
- General maintenance to snow cannons, snow equipment and other related equipment.
- Performs other related manual tasks in the operation and maintenance of the park and facilities.
- Performs other related duties assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
- Regularly lifts up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts to 50 pounds. May lift up to 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to climb ladders.
- Enforce Parks and Recreation policies.
- Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency. If an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.
QualificationsCognitive Demands, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated experience and/or working knowledge in operation of recreation facilities Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the park guests and park staff. Ability to communicate with park guests, supervisors, and co-workers in a positive, friendly manner both orally and in written form.
Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you, ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer); ability to see details at a distance, ability to identify and understand the speech of another person; ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Must be able to work nights, weekends, overnights and holidays.
Job Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the equipment and techniques necessary to successfully oversee all facets of the facility; some knowledge of first?aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in public work; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates; good physical condition; ability to coordinate multiple events and multi-task.
Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication: Requires effective communication skills and the ability to provide assistance to customers (external and internal). Requires the ability to write and speak clearly, distinctly and effectively with fellow employees and the general public; read in English and compare similarities and differences between words and series of numbers; apply common sense understanding to the work process, procedures, programs and services; and to provide and follow verbal and written instructions.
Physical Requirements: The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. Ability to quickly move hands, hands together with arms, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects, ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time; this involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue, ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing, ability to quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with body, arms, and/or legs.
Work Environment: The employee will work the majority of the time in an outdoor environment with regular exposure to cold. Below freezing temperatures and wind chills are to be expected.
Minimum Required Qualifications Experience with snow and ice making is preferred. Must be 18 years of age or older
