Overview:

UnityPoint-St Luke's Hospital Coffee Shop

PRN (as needed)

6am-2:30pm weekends, holidays and some weekdays if needed

Prepare, provide and serve attractive and quality food with a friendly, safe and courteous manner to all customers in accordance with all department policies & procedures. Perform duties of cleaning and sanitizing dishes, pans, and equipment throughout the department. To stock display cases and coolers. Provide excellent customer service.

Assemble, organize, prepare, and cook or bake from scratch or convenience all meats, entrees, casseroles, soup, starches, vegetables, sauces, and bakery products, etc. to provide the menu selections for patient, cafeteria, special function and satellite accounts while meeting productivity levels. Is knowledgeable about and practices HACCP guidelines.

Responsibilities:

Customer Service/Patient Care

  • Prepares, provides, and serves attractive and quality food and service as assigned.
  • Maintains good portion control.
  • Utilizes positive customer service skills such as smiling, offering suggestions, providing for special requests, etc.
  • Fulfills any and all other designated tasks pertinent to the success of the NFS department.

Technical & Safety

  • Correctly operate department equipment that has been assigned.
  • Clean and restock dishes, food, supplies, and beverages during hours of operation as assigned.
  • Practices HACCP guidelines for food handling and a sanitary and safe condition. Reports any equipment malfunction to a supervisor. Monitors and records temperatures, utilizes safe food handling techniques, maintains a clean orderly work station.
  • Ensures cash is balanced each shift and reviewed by a Team Lead or Supervisor.
  • Checks out with Supervisor or Team Lead at the end of their shift.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

ServSafe Food Handler (Training Provided)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

Other:

Machines: Espresso machine, milk steamer, coffee urn, refrigerators, freezers, knives, and any other pertinent food service equipment.
