Job Title: Concrete Journeyman
Business Title: HCI-Construction

SUMMARY
Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walks, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. Align forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patch voids; and use saws to cut expansion joints.

- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Verify trueness of structure using plumb bob and level.
- Understand and follow Blueprints, Drawings, and Specifications.
- Measure and mark lines on materials using a pencil, marker, chalk or marking gauge.
- Shape or cut material to specific measurement with hand tools, machines and power saw.
- Erects, moves and performs duties from scaffolding, ladders, and lifts.
- Understand and follow company chain of command and reporting methods.
- Retain and apply what is learned as it applies to the next skill level.
- Regularly attend company safety training sessions.
- Keep and maintain reliable transportation to and from changing job site locations.
- Ability to take direction and carry out job duties as needed.
- Align, straighten, plumb and square forms for installation.
- Cut concrete using a motorized concrete saw.
- Produce rough concrete surface, using broom.
- Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
- Clean chipped area, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven.
- Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring and move chute to direct concrete on forms.
- Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface.
- Operate power vibrator to compact concrete.
- Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete, using pneumatic chisels, power grinders, or hand tools.
- Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position reinforcing rods to repair concrete, using power saw and drill.
- Waterproof or restore concrete surfaces, using appropriate compounds.
- Wet concrete surface and rub with stone to smooth surface and obtain specified finish.
- Wet surface to prepare for bonding, fill holes and cracks with grout or slurry, and smooth, using trowel.
- Fabricate concrete beams, columns, and panels.
- Install anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete or pattern or stamp the surface to provide a decorative finish.
- Build wooden molds, and clamp molds around area to be repaired, using hand tools.
- Cut metal division strips and press them into terrazzo base so that top edges form desired design or pattern.
- Push roller over surface to embed chips in surface.
- Polish surface, using polishing or surfacing machine.
- Understand and follow company chain of command and reporting methods.

Experience
- Four years or more experience in a related area preferred.
- Capable of determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Able to perform job duties with little to no supervision.
- Able to layout, form, pour and finish concrete flatwork.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- General understanding of construction practices
- Willingness to put forth extra effort.
- Communication skills both verbal and written.
Education
High school diploma or Equivalent required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position will assist in overseeing crews assigned to their specific project. Crews will consist of laborers, apprentices, and journeymen.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job performs physically demanding work. May work at great heights or outdoors in all weather conditions. The use Personal Protection Equipment is required.

ROLE/LOCATION SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This is a full-time position.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position (40 hrs./week). Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00a.m. to 3:30p.m. with overtime as needed before/after shifts and on Saturdays. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Regular commute to primary work location is not considered travel.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
